Differnt Parts, Same Message

Sometimes you have to see things as they are. So my mom (unexpectedly) waking me up early to accompany her to the airport to see her sister off was actually an opportunity to write this ideas out that I’ve been thinking about. Also it’s nice to spend a couple more minutes with my aunt from Africa that I met for the first time last week. She is so precious. I don’t know when/if I’ll ever see her again. I love her so much.

Whenever I visit home there’s always the request by my mother and my brother to visit to their churches. My mom gets to show her small church family the “son that lives in Arizona” and I get to see my brother worship from the drums on the stage of the 4th fastest growing church in the world (his church (peopleschurch.tv) has set the precedent for the church of the future-“the multi-cultural” church, but that’s another story). They both are happy that I attend, and me as a Jesus junkie am happy to oblige them.

The two churches couldn’t be any more different. My moms church meets in a strip mall storefront. The congregation is small, but growing (they have recently added a 2nd service) and they worship to music recorded on CD’s. My brother’s church has recently opened their first satellite location. Within 6 weeks of it opening, they have moved to 3 services. They have a massive arsenal of professional musicians which they rotate and stagger between the two locations. So you get it…very different churches.

I went to my mothers church first. There was an African minister there named bishop Duku. He spoke about the double portion Elisha received from Elijah. He prayed for me prophesied over me things about me & my destiny that he couldn’t have known. It was very encouraging. The satellite speaker at my brothers church spoke about rebellion and it’s consequences. One of consequences he mentioned was “missing out on God given opportunities”

I was driving home when God spoke to me about how the two messages were related. “I want to do all of those things that I’ve planned for you and much more, but the rebellion you are in will cause you to see that destiny fulfilled in a lesser capacity or worse, not even at all.” I saw then that though I was following God for the most part, there were areas where I decided I knew better than God, and so I was doing those things/living those parts of my life my own way. I was living my life 99% in the will of God, but He was telling me the 1% was more than enough to compromise my destiny and future. That’s the thing about rebellion-that’s why it’s so dangerous. It might be localized to one area, but it spreads. It might be that 1% but it grows, like a cancer. Eating away at you, until you are a slave to your vices and a shell of who you used be. Once God showed me this, it made me think of all the people before me who had decided that they knew better than God and as a result did things their own way. Many of which it was just one area, just one decision, but the repercussions were catastrophic. Not just people mentioned in scripture, but examples in my own life, as well as examples from my past. The remarkable thing about it all was how two different messages were actually just different parts of the same message.

Mary: “…and he’s so smart. Just to listening to him talk, I learned a new word.”

Me:”what was the word”

Mary:”blowhard”

Just so we are clear: if you don’t like/approve of me, that’s regrettable…and it’s also your problem.
